Progetti nati per il turismo e poi ampliati per comunità e donne. Un caso in Nepal

Empowering Women of Nepal e 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking lavorano insieme promuovendo il migliroamento della condizione delle donne attraverso il turismo di avventura, sportivo e nella natura. Insieme combiniamo programmi di formazione e preparazione professionale e creazione di posti di lavoro. Il nostro scopo è aiutare le nostre sorelle, le donne del Nepal, a diventare più fiduciose in sè stesse, determinate, indipendenti.


Queste le loro attività.

  1. Female Trekking Guide Training Program.
    Twice a year during the trekking off season, EWN offers an intensive four week Female Trekking Guide Training Program. Until now 1500 women from 46 districts of Nepal have taken training in this field. Our 4 week intensive course includes different topics like Tourism and Trekking, Basic English conversation, Religion and Culture, Map Reading, Women's health, Leadership, Flora, Fauna and many more. Instructors who are experts in their field and foreign volunteers give them both practical and theoretical classes to help them become a good trekking guide. This training program started from the year 1999 and has been working till date to empower women of Nepal.
  2. Advance Training Program: Rock and Ice Climbing
    EWN has expanded their training programs to include advanced courses for Senior Guides interested in expanding their skill set. The advanced training is available in two levels; first the girls are trained in rock climbing and if they show exceptional climbing aptitude they can advance to ice climbing. EWN's rock climbing training was incepted in 2005 and 134 women have participated in the program. The ice climbing program started three years later and 12 women have been beneficiaries of this training.
    In 2008, EWN began working on a multi- year ice climbing training project with the Magic Mountain Foundation (MMF) in Poland. Together, MMF and EWN conducted their first ice climbing training on Tent Peak (5700m) from Annapurna Base Camp. In 2009 the two organizations conducted their second ice climbing training on Chulu West (6700m) in the Manang area of the Annapurnas. In 2010, 4 guides and 1 representative from EWN went to Poland and Italy to receive more advanced technical training. On May 31st, 2011, at 5:15am Nepali time, these 4 guides were the first Nepali women to summit Annapurna IV (7525m)!
  3. Community Development Training in West Nepal
    In order to mitigate some of the districts' development challenges, EWN has been actively working in West Nepal since 2005. Based on EWN's experience and expertise in rural tourism development, a new training program called Women's Initiation in Ecotourism was designed. Rural women have the opportunity to learn and interact in a supportive environment during this one week course which offers subjects such as:
    · Basic women's health issues
    · Basic hygiene and sanitation
    · Trekking and ecotourism
    · Lodge Management
    · Utilization and promotion of local foods
    · Environmental awareness
    · Conversational English
    Tourism has been a vital instrument in the development of the Everest and Annapurna regions. The West Nepal training is designed to build skills in trekking and tourism. EWN hopes that once this new destination flourishes there will be more tourists visiting the area and that local woman will be able to utilize their skills and knowledge to gain employment and earn income. Untill now 576 women belonging to West Nepal have received this training.
  4. West Nepal Midwife Scholarship Fund
    The West Nepal Midwife Scholarship Fund started in August 2010 to assist deserving girls from Humla, Dolpa, Mugu, Jumla and Kalikot to continue their education after grade 10. This scholarship has been established so that the most deserving girls from low-income families can obtain a higher degree despite their financial difficulties.
    The scholarship was developed after completing an intensive needs assessment in conjunction with women's groups in Jumla. Together we addressed the urgent need for experienced health professionals and midwives in the West Nepal villages to avoid pregnancy complications and reduce pregnancy related deaths every year. Currently 3 girls have been provided with this scholarship fund.
  5. Children's Home
    In April 2006, EWN grew to include a Children's Home. The home is a shelter for young girls rescued from child labor or from environments that threaten to put them into child labor, common amongst impoverished families.
    The mission of the Children's Home is to provide educational opportunities, a safe environment and lots of love to socially disadvantaged children and orphans. EWN provides all of this in the hope that each girl can lead a dignified life in the future.
    As of December, 2011, 17 girls ranging from age 4 to 16 live in this home where they receive free education, accommodation, clothes, food and most importantly a safe healthy environment.
  6. Ongoing Conversational English ClassesAll year round volunteers from different parts of the world offer free English class lessons to the guides and assistant guides to help them improve their spoken English. So far more then 1500 women from all over Nepal have received free English classes.
