Walking between sky and sea, step by step: this is the best way to discover the Apuane Alps, the wonderful mountains of Tuscany. Cristina Bartoletti, environmental hiking guide, will come with us on this travel into the nature, history and legends of these places. Six days of silence and views getting in touch with oneself again and experiencing the pleasure to travel on foot in a new territory

The wind, the crests suspended between sky and sea, the expanses of flowers, are some of the most jealously kept secrets by those who know the Apuan Alps, the mountain system that develops at the north-western end of Tuscany, near the Tyrrhenian coast. Here Cristina Bartoletti, environmental hiking guide, guides you in six days of journey to discover the history, legends and a past made of hard work in the quarries, where for centuries marble has been the main resource of the people of these valleys.

As Cristina says: "Six days of silence and views to find yourself and the pleasure of travelling on foot in a new territory, With stops in mountain huts, to find the women with whom I have become friends and who always amaze travellers for the welcoming and familiar atmosphere that they know how to create".

Already the first evening, you stop at the Alpe alla Grotta, at Rifugio Forte dei Marmi, where the new managers organize recycling courses, basketry, production of herbal soap.

The second night, at Rifugio del Freo, Francesca is the hostess: she cooks with herbs, makes liquor, serves the typical bread of Serravezza, organizes concerts of popular music, and for the smallest summer camps between puppets and nights to look at the stars. From the clearing, you rise above the woods and continue among the peaks.

Then, on the fifth day, you arrive at Orto di Donna, a former marble quarrymen building, transformed into a comfortable refuge, where Stefania cooks spelt soup and Garfagnana bread with potatoes, organizes summer camps for children, concerts and yoga.
